BRIDE today is more likely to make lace dresses as a wedding dress and it is difficult to find a bride who wants to wear songket as a dress. Outdated, hot and not modern is one of the reasons used to reject the use of songket as a wedding dress. According to the lecturer of the Faculty of Art and Design, Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Shah Alam, Associate Professor Abdul Shukor Ismail, the bride now loves glamor. “They were influenced by glamorous events such as ‘red carpet’ which were seen on television or seen in magazines. According to him, it is difficult to find a bride who wants to sing songket except those who are artistic and traditional. If someone wears it will not be considered glamour and old fashion.
He also suggested that the bride revive the classic songket shirts such as sutures and accompanied by the use of traditional accessories. According to Abdul Shukor, there are parents who do not encourage the child to wear songket on the day of marriage. They even encourage their children to wear lace shirts and are willing to buy at a price of up to thousands of dollars. Zainon Mohd Nor, 68, a retired teacher said the bride wearing a songket looked “in awe” and looked like a bride. She is less likely to be a bride who likes to wear rare lace shirts where her arms and chest parts do not stick. According to him, the reason for the songket heat is no longer relevant because the songket is now not as thick as songket as long as the songket can be stored for a long time.
